Impact Pub - THIS FRIDAY!!!

I know that loyal readers will be disappointed that I am re-using a GIF, but really, what could be more appropriate than this, for our first "Think with a Drink" night?
If you haven't heard yet about the next big thing on Lisbon Friday nights, then read on here!

Work with Us!!!

Oh yes. It's that rare time of year where you get the chance to fulfil your dreams and work for the Impact Hub!
You can see the full job description and how to apply here.

We are Looking for Event Hosts

Do you know how to host a good party?
Wait no, that's not what we do!
Do you know how to ensure events run smoothly, where all the IT works, all the rubbish ends up in the right bin, and the organisers come to thank you at the end for the best night of their life?
Well then, you'd best get in touch with us, because you will also get UNLIMITED HUB MEMBERSHIP, in return for your time on the occasional evening.

O Artigo: Crises of Capitalism - a video!

One of my all-time favourite videos. I used to show this to my Sociology students, and anyone else I could trap for more than 11 minutes. It's a crash course in the contradications of capitalism, and it has so much food for thought it's worth watching twice! You won't regret clicking here.

Funding & Competitions:

1. Green Discoveries

The title is in English, but everything else is in Portuguese...so I'm guessing you'd better be sharp with your lingua if you want to compete in this accelerator for startups addressing environmental challenges.
It's a residential long weekend from November 15-17th.

2. Designing for Environmental Sustainability and Social Impact

A free course from the amazing selection available at Acumen. Do you want to develop entrepreneurial solutions that promote environmental conservation and address problems of poverty? Well then, sign up here!

3. Student Social Innovation Challenge

You could win $20,000 with this global challenge platform for university students to come together and develop innovative solutions to problems associated with poverty. Find out more and sign up here.

Humans Before Borders

Our friends from HUBB return for another night of well-structured debate about one of the most pressing issues of our time.
The theme this week is Collective Memory, and and the way in which the past influences our self-image today. You can read more and sign up for free here.

Fuck Up Nights

How much fun does this sound like? Listen to respected professionals talk about the total shit-shows that they encountered on their journeys. It's getting some good write-ups in TimeOut among others, so I think we can expect a full house to hear some hilarious and painful stories. Buy tickets here.

New Events Space!

We've had some works done in the Hub house, and that means you can now hire our main event space, for up to 150 people, any time or day you like! Check out the presentation here, and get in touch to find out more.

New Member Hosts!

Say hello to our charming new hosts, who will be front of house at the Hub.

Mondays: Luísa Pessoa

"I’m a Brazilian (carioca!) designer based in Lisbon since last year. The world is changing and I am willing to think positive impact solutions for it!

I have 8 years of experience as a designer, in which I worked in important branding and product offices, founded and managed an e-commerce and act as a service designer consultant. I’ve specialized in Design Thinking and in the Creative Economy, aiming to deliver strategic, creative and innovative solutions to companies through the mindset of empathy, collaboration and experimentation.

My view is that we should think about the world’s challenges jointly to create a positive and relevant impact."

Fridays: Mike Ananyin

"I am a Token Architect at Fransis Partnership Foundation with the aim to help business owners, chief officers and investors extract money from Data. I achieve that by delivering Business Intelligence guidance, analysis insights, research White Papers and full-care advising. My business drive comes from providing customized creative solutions and loyalty to my clients and partners.
I have a scientific background with 10 years of academic studies and research in Theoretical Physics. I am motivated by growth and learning, by social impact that technology can bring to the world now, seeking an opportunity to apply my skills, knowledge and experience to create social impact that would motivate me to advance further and bring profit to my stimulating workplace.
In 2018 I was nominated as one of the TOP10 Token Architects in Europe by the Irish Tech News."

É P'ra Amanha

Our fearless leader Francesco Rocca somehow finds time, in addition to managing the Hub, to make a film series about initiatives working for a sustainable future today, across Portugal. You can see him being a star on tv here, and find out more about the project here. And he has written an article in Público with his collaborators here.

The Week That Was

CineClima screened Normal is Over, which was followed by a really interesting discussion in the audience, and strengthened our resolve when we went on the Climate Strike on Friday.

We had a successful Wise Wednesday with Liliana, figuring out how to make behaviour change stick.
And...the long promised 2nd toilet has finally arrived!!! And as you can see, it's clean enough to eat in (although we don't recommend multi-tasking here).
