9th edition of the World Robotic Sailing Championship and International Robotic Sailing Conference @ Viana do Castelo - 5th to 10th of Sept 2016

Welcome to the 9th edition of the World Robotic Sailing Championship and International Robotic Sailing Conference. WRSC/IRSC is a technico-scientific event devoted to the evaluation and development of fully autonomous unmanned sailing boats. As in previous editions, the World Robotic Sailing Championship is a competition open to non-motorized autonomous boats up to 4m in length, using as propulsion energy uniquely the force of the wind.

The event will include various challenges to evaluate the ability of competitors to accomplish various navigation tasks, like following a line, scanning an area, holding station or perform accurately certain sailing maneuvers. The International Robotic Sailing conference is a one day conference associated to the competition, aiming to join the international community and promote the dissemination of works on the various engineering challenges around the development and operation of fully autonomous unmanned sailing boats.

The 2016 edition of WRSC/IRSC will take place in Viana do Castelo, north of Portugal, between the 5th and 10th of September 2016. The event is organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and INESC TEC , with the support of the Municipality of Viana do Castelo and the Sailing Club of Viana do Castelo. Additional sponsors are welcome.
