Green Hackathon is an international series of events to get
together to create and implement new ideas for a more sustainable
future. We believe in a hacker approach to sustainability: getting
excited and building things, using and producing open data and code,
being creative, using computer technology and ideas to change the world
for better.

Awards and Closing |
In hacking periods participants may leave and return to the building
as they wish and can either stay overnight or go home to sleep. There
will be designated resting areas and feeding snacks and drinks will
become available during these periods. The staff will provide support
and advice according to their skills and areas.
FAST-TALKS AND BRAINSTORMING
Fast-talks are intended to bring enthusiasts to speedy inspiring
speeches to stimulate the participants inventions’ creativity. The
organization will also try to help with some brainstorm group
activities, but the idea will still need to come from the participants!
IDEAS PITCHING
No matter how far-fetched, at this point everyone needs to come up
with some kind of idea for a 1 minute “elevator presentation” for the
remaining participants. Afterwards the groups and respectively ideas
will be determined by a group idea selection dynamic. Participants with
pre-formed groups will also participate, being naturally free to get
together during the activity.
HACKING
The goal will be to develop the idea’s concept in greater details as
much as possible and shall include the development of some kind of
prototype as software or hardware. There will be some common electronic
material to all teams but the main responsibility is from the
participants, who must bring or purchase the material as they see fit.
JURI
The jury invited by the organization will be composed by people
linked to the area. They will give feedback on the projects and evaluate
the following metrics:
- Environmental impact: assessment of benefit and influence of the environment hack
- Innovation: assessment of the extent to which the idea is new and has a good approach to the problem it seeks to solve
- Technical Maturity: assess to some extent the idea was developed and shows work from a technical point of view
- Business Idea: evaluates the underlying business value to the idea
in terms of business models that make sustainable and financially viable
The prizes, to be announced before the event, will then be distributed by the organization for the 3 following categories:
- Best Green Hack: that sums up the best overall score
- Biggest Environmental Impact Hack: with best score in metric “Environmental Impact”
- Best Bussiness Idea: with best score in metric “Business Idea”
